Studio Expectations
ATTENTION! Each student who comes to their next lesson with a report that they and their parent read this gets...wait for it...a PENNY! (It'll be worth it!)
Parent Expectations
- Ask questions, "What was the "one thing" you learned today?"
- Support or provide (depending on age of child) passive listening for 20 min a day
- Applaud and compliment efforts being made by child
- Encourage daily practice
Please note, the way that Dr. Suzuki has designed his music teaching curriculum is akin to the way a child learns a language--immersion first then mechanics.
Think of it this way, first we build the car then we drive it. In Suzuki music training, the role of the parent is to help the child build their car or vocal repertoire or songs at home, and in lessons they will learn how to drive or sing those songs.
- Bring music bag and books each week
- Listen daily to your music
- Practice your vocal activities daily and have fun!
- Listen to a variety of singers and styles, always have ideas on what you want to sing next!
As we talked about in your lesson, the more consistent you listen to your technique pieces the sooner you'll get to your choice pieces! I want my private voice students to set a goal to sing 1-techinique piece and 1-song of choice at our recital. You got this! Let's go! Allegro!
What students and parents can except from me and their lessons
- If you build or rather learn your music at home our time in lessons will be spent on learning the mechanics or the "how to" when it comes to singing with your best most natural and powerful voice. I will be ready with creative and effect teaching techniques that will get you to your choose songs as soon as you pass off your first technique piece.
